David Foglia

David Foglia is an accomplished American contemporary glass artist and photographer whose creative career has evolved across more than two decades of studio glass, painting and photography.

A continuing
artistic journey.

From contemporary studio glass to reverse painting, documentary photography and portraiture, Foglia's practice continues to evolve while remaining grounded in a deep interest in light, color, form and human experience.

For 21 years, Foglia specialized in contemporary art glass, developing a distinctive body of work characterized by monumental scale, intricate surfaces and a sophisticated exploration of color, light and form.

His work includes large, heavy centerpieces, bowls and sculptural pieces incorporating multi-tiered beveled glass bases, sand-cast textures and organic and floral motifs.

A particularly recognizable aspect of Foglia's later glasswork is his use of reverse painting on glass, bringing together his knowledge of painting and his mastery of the glass medium.

His work has been presented through major auctions and private commissions, including custom designs created for corporate clients such as Princess Cruise Line.

Painting

Foglia formally studied classical Renaissance painting techniques under the Norwegian painter Jan Sæther. This training contributed to his understanding of composition, color, light and the human figure and became an important foundation for his broader artistic practice.

Photography

Foglia's artistic journey eventually expanded into documentary and portrait photography. Drawing upon his classical training and years of observing form, surface and human expression, he turned his camera toward stories of people and their relationship with the natural world.

His photographic work includes Human Nature, a documentary collection featuring wildlife, environmental subjects, scientists, conservationists and others whose lives intersect with the natural world.

Through these images, Foglia explores human connection, ecological awareness and the ways encounters with nature can influence our understanding and experience of the world around us.

Across glass, painting and photography, David Foglia's work reflects a continuing curiosity about light, form, humanity and the natural environment. His artistic practice continues to evolve, with each medium becoming part of a larger and ongoing visual conversation.
